Ramen Utsuke - Baltimore, MD

Updated: Aug 21

As an anime fan, the best part of watching an anime show is seeing the food. Every time the characters eat a bowl of ramen, curry, onigiri, or taiyaki, I can't help but wonder what it tastes like. The most accessible anime food that anybody can try is ramen. But we all know putting a cup of ramen in the microwave or boiling it in a pot isn't going to make it come out looking like Naruto's. So, while I was looking for lunch in Baltimore, I was able to find a Japanese restaurant called Ramen Utsuke. A restaurant that specializes in creating ramen bowls with pork or chicken broth, plus sushi and bento boxes.

Entering the building, I was met with friendly staff and was able to get my food quickly. I ordered the Classic Shoyu and Fried Shrimp (Qty: 6 shrimps). The waiter gave me a plate of fried shrimp and a small black bowl. The shrimp had a nice crunchy texture on the outside, similar to potato chips, and was still tasty on the inside. When it comes to fried food, I love it when the fried batter has a satisfying crunch.

The Classic Shoyu was bigger than what I was expecting, but its simplistic flavor was still enjoyable. The Shoyu came with bean sprouts, corn, two pieces of seaweed, half an egg, noodles, and pieces of chicken (the chicken was my favorite part), all within a chicken broth. It was a fun meal to eat because of the different types of food in the soup and the different textures I could taste in one spoonful. I tried so hard to eat everything, but my stomach had no space left and there was plenty of soup leftover to have for dinner. This was my first time eating ramen (outside of the instant cup) and I would say this was a good introduction to the Japanese dish. Overall, if you're in the Baltimore area, hit up Ramen Utsuke.
